The Association of Finnish Sculptorsfounded in 1910, is the trade association for professional sculptors. The objective of the Union is to promote Finnish plastic art and to look after the professional, economic and social rights of sculptors, to promote international cooperation and to arouse public interest in sculpture.Members and administrationThe Association of Finnish Sculptors has 256 ordinary members and 90 aspirant members. Eligible for membership are sculptors that are Finnish nationals or permanent residents in Finland and who have proved their competence as sculptors. As aspirant members the Association may accept persons who have graduated from an art school or persons with equivalent skills. Aspirants must qualify as members within five years. The Board, consisting of a chairperson and four ordinary and two deputy members, is responsible for the administration of the Association. Private persons, corporations and institutions interested in sculpture may become contributory members of the Union. Promotion of plastic artThe Association has photographic and information files on the entire membership, files on sculptural work for medals, portraits and gravestone, a slide series presenting publicly displayed sculptures and video recordings presenting plastic art. The Association also publishes publication on Finnish plastic art. Sculptor Gallery and ExhibitionsThe Pro Sculptura MedalSince 1962 the Association has awarded Pro Sculptura medals to corporations, institutions or private persons, who have significantly contributed to the promotion of sculpture.
