Seppo ManninenSynt. - b. 1937 |
An interesting feature in Seppo Manninen's sculptures and installations is the way he combines various sculpture materials and handles them. In themselves, wood, cloth, iron and stone are all cheap, but in their content, status and form language they are different, even conflicting. In Manninen's works these materials and their opposite properties - for example, their lightness and heaviness, softness and hardness, preciousness and commonplaceness, masculinity and femininity - combine to form and balanced, stylish and poetic whole. Manninen displays a sensitive yet honest approach to this material, by virtue of which he is able to strike up a mutual balance between them. |
